Students in the Phoenixville Area Middle School’s Youth & Philanthropy program teamed up with fellow students, parents and members of the middle school community to put together an enormous holiday feast for 31 families in the Phoenixville community.
Throughout the course of the week, students brought non-perishable items to school, everything from cans of veggies and fruits to boxes of cereal, and even baby items for the littlest members of the families.
A donor who wishes to remain anonymous gave $300 to the Feed 31 Families project via the Phoenixville Community Education Foundation; that money was used to purchase turkeys and fresh and frozen vegetables for each of the 31 families.
“Philanthropic efforts put forth by anyone need to be supported,” the donor said. “Phoenixville is a great community worthy of support.”
On Wednesday morning, students brought their items to the cafeteria by the bucket, box and bag! Y&P students along with teachers and parent volunteers collected and organized the items for distribution, then loaded up their vehicles and set out to make the deliveries.
This is the 29th year for Feed 31 Families; it was started in 1970 by retired PAMS teachers William “Mr. Kel” Kelley and Laura Appel.
